A WONDERFUL NYSMF TESTIMONIAL BY JEAN B. CERIN

Hey there everyone. One of the fantastic members of our counseling staff, JEAN B. CERIN, very kindly wrote a heartfelt testimonial about what a wonderful world we are creating for everyone at NYSMF this summer. Read on and be as touched as we were!
Ms. Jungeun Kim and her amazing staff of professionals at NYSMF are among the finest group of musicians the North East has to offer.

Hailing from the most prestigious music schools in the country, they come together to form an intense yet welcoming musical environment preparing young musicians, like myself, for the larger world of classical music.

Ms. Kim was kind enough to invite me to take part in past endeavors (with virtually the same people as now works at NYSMF) and it was truly unforgettable. I was literally bombarded with music. From morning till night I was singing, playing the piano, attending concerts, taking conducting class, and meeting other young musicians like myself who had a passion for the art.

I grew immensely both as a musician and a human being. Intense summer programs provide the setting to put into practice all the principles that you learn in music classes and lessons over the year all day long as well as learn tons more. The volume of repertoire covered and the unwavering stride toward artistic excellence with which we approached it, forced me to search within myself and find an Œintellectual passion‚ to face each new work and master it quickly.

Following that great summer, a number of wonderful musical opportunities have opened up because of this learning experience, thanks to the professionals I met and am still in contact with.

NYSMF is an event not to be missed. Ms. Kim and her staff have proven themselves not only amazing teachers and musicians, but kind and welcoming human beings that helped change my future and will surely do the same for others.

  • Hello Justin - Keisuke Hoashi here, the NYSMF Dir. of Comm., and Jean asked me to post this reply for him.

    FROM JEAN B. CERIN:
"Sorry for the delay. Music will definitely be your primary occupation. The campers will be doing music most of the time and you'll be there with them. My 'counseling' duties were mostly at night and on the weekends. So except for the occasional run to the health center, or something of that sort, you'll be doing music. Remember, counselors are hired as much for their musicianship as anything else. You'll have plenty of practice and performance time."

Thanks a lot, Jean, for your thoughtful and very informative reply!
